Biblical Era – A United Kingdom of Israel

The 12 Israelite Tribes united under one monarch for the first time. Their jurisdiction covered much of modern-day Israel and the Levant.

  • 1020 BCE – Jewish monarchy established; Saul, first king.
  • 1000 BCE – Jerusalem becomes capital of David’s kingdom.
  • 960 BCE – First Temple, the national and spiritual center of the Jewish people, built in Jerusalem by King Solomon.
