1895 – The Dreyfus Affair

The “Dreyfus Affair” significantly impacted Jews worldwide, who were shocked at the hatred Dreyfus experienced. This convinced Theodore Herzl that assimilation could not protect Jews from antisemitism, and he surmised that the solution was to establish a Jewish state.
